Turning over a new leaf at bedtime

Mitchell has ALWAYS struggled with bedtime. He is not one of those kiddos that will doze off slowly in your arms. Usually he'll be playing and having fun, and then all of the sudden he will spiral downhill quickly into a turns into a tired, fussy mess...signaling bedtime! We place him in his crib and he'll cry himself to sleep. So sad! Traditionally, this chain of events occurred right around 7pm.

Lately, he's been stretching out his nights, where he'll reach 8pm and starts to show signs of sleepiness, but no downward spiral. Yeah! We take him into his room, start some comforting lullaby music and rock him for maybe 30 seconds before placing him in his crib.

The last two nights he has started reaching for his crib while I'm rocking him! Amazing! I place him inside and there is no crying...just slowly drifts of to sleep.

This may not seem like much some of you, but it is a major breakthrough for us!

He also gave us 1 1/2 to 2 hour naps both Saturday and Sunday. That is longer than usual. He's usually a 30 min to 45 min napper. What are we going to do with all of this extra time?!?! :)

Sounds like it's all under control now, but have you read "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby" by Dr. Weissbluth? A friend has already recommended it to me as a must have for all parents. I haven't picked it up yet, but I intend to.

Maybe those wagon rides are wearing him out :)
I'm glad he has a good sleep routine... hope he keeps it up! His Valentine gift is on the way.. just a little late.
