Aunt Katy visits!

Jacob's sister, Katy, drove up from Oklahoma City to visit us for Thanksgiving. Mitchell was about the only entertainment that we needed, but we also managed to squeeze in a trip to Hooter's (long story), some shopping on the Plaza and a very untraditional Thanksgiving meal.

Mitchell's favorite word to say over and over again is "dog". Katy bought him this cute little Tex look a like dog while we were shopping. He loves it! Thx for the early Xmas present, Katy!

Jacob caught the stomach flu that I had, so he wasn't too thankful on Thanksgiving. :( Just like mine, it came and went fast, so he's running on full steam again! Unfortunately, I think we may have passed it on to my sister, Kelli. :( Hope you don't get it, Katy!

I'm stuffed!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving! Mitchell is 11 months old today! One more month 'til the big birthday!

He's extremely spoiled with all of the family in town! He'll never learn to walk with everyone carrying him around :) Just kidding!

I hope everyone had fabulous Thanksgivings! We celebrate ours tomorrow....my mouth is already watering!

Gobble gobble

Mitchell spent the morning on the phone calling Aunt Katy, Aunt Kel and Grandma and Grandpa Bays to see when they were going to be here to see him!

Look at that belly! This kid was BORN for Thanksgiving!!!

After a few calls, his ear got a little worn out and he switched to his bluetooth.

Christmas preview

We took all of the pictures for our Xmas cards this past weekend and I got our Xmas cards ordered yesterday! Our friend, Lauren Shreve, designed them for us. She has her own little business. She did a GREAT job, and they are less expensive than ordering from a website!!!

I had the 24 hour stomach bug yesterday!!!! :( Ugh! I started feeling icky in the middle of the night and kept thinking it would just go away...but it didn't. I spent the entire day within steps of the bathroom and luckily about 6pm last night I started feeling better. I hope Mitchell and Jacob don't catch it! It was NO FUN, but atleast it was short lived!!!

Lazy weekend

We had a lazy weekend this weekend - and LOVED it! Our lives are almost back in order before the Holiday rush! Here is a cute little picture of Jacob and Mitchell taking a little Sunday afternoon nap while watching football.

Look how happy they were when they woke up :)

We're anxiously awaiting the arrival of family for Mitchell's first Thanksgiving. Jacob's sister, Katy, is first! She arrives tomorrow! Yeah!
My sister and Mark, and my mom and David are next. They will arrive on Thursday and we will have the whole damn fam over on Saturday for Turkey day. Many pictures to follow...

Update on walking: Mitchell has now taken up to 3 steps on his own before crashing. It'll be exciting to see when he finally puts it all together!

One for me....one for you....

The books say that the more foods your child tastes in the early eating days, the less picky he'll be later in life....so we try just about everything edible! Jacob's mom once told me that one of his favorite foods at a young age was beets, so we gave them a try. I'm not sure they went over very well for Mitchell, but Tex liked them. I know I should probably discipline him when he does things like this...but it's so hard when he's so stinking cute!!!

Mitchell got his flu shot yesterday. I've been procrastinating because we've been so busy and because I never look forward to him getting shots. Not only did he NOT cry when he got the shot, he didn't even flinch. Tough guy :)

Don't cry over spilled milk!

I would sure be shedding a lot of tears these days if I cried over spilled milk! Much to Mommy's dismay and Tex's pleasure, meal time has just gotten messier and messier these days!

Men at work

Jacob and I decided that Mitchell needs to start pulling his weight around here, so we answered one of those "work at home and make a million dollars per month" adds.

His first day was today...and all in all....I'd say the little guy was successful.

He took some notes while listening to a conference call on speaker using his new blackberry.

"Hold on, hold on...let me get this all written down."

He typed furiously on his newly issued computer....

...and was very happy with the outcome.

Livin' out of our suitcase

Our entire family has been livin' out of our suitcase this past week. I counted that I was on six flights in seven days, and went to six different states. We also went 11 days without seeing Jacob. It was a hectic week -- but much thanks to my parents, we all (including the pets) survived!!!

We attended a wedding in Omaha on Friday night. We took Mitchell with us to the service, but then had a friend's mom watch him while we attended the reception. Apparently he was an angel for her....doubt she'd tell me even if he wasn't!

We came back from Omaha in time to help host a couple's baby shower for some old work friends - Ryan and Lauren Shreve. Their baby boy is due on December 20th....sound familiar to anyone??????????????? Yep - that was my due date! Oh, man that seems like a lifetime ago! Among other presents, I gave them our cute 1st Christmas onesies since Mitchell didn't quite cooperate to arrive in time for Christmas! Something told me that he wouldn't fit into those Newborn onesies this year on his REAL 1st Christmas!!! :)

Signing and Saying "Cat"

Mitchell is a LEARNING machine lately! He just watches and watches us and tries to mimic everything that we do (good and bad!)

I am really trying to work with him on his sign language. Here is a little video of him saying and signing "cat" (I have taught him the sign using just one hand) Isn't it cute?!?!

There have been a few skeptics saying "why would you teach him to sign? Just teach him to talk!" No fear - we're obviously teaching him to talk too! Here is a site that does a good job of capturing the benefits of teaching hearing babies sign language.

Mitchell first experience with snow!

It snowed in Wisconsin while we were there, just a tad, but I let Mitchell play in it for a minute.

Wow - this stuff is kind of cool!

Wait, let me take a closer look.

Hmmm....I'm not so sure about it afterall.

I know I've only been out here for 2 minutes, but I'm done with this cold, white stuff.

Take me inside!

We're home from our trip!

Mitchell and I made it home from our trip to Wisconsin/Minnesota this afternoon. The flight home was MUCH less eventful thant the flight there, in a good way! We had a wonderful trip (as usual!). Here are a few more pictures....

Mitchell and his Aunt Kel

Kelli watched Mitchell for two of the days. She took him to a pet store where he walked up and down the aisles shouting "dog" over and over again! Oh, man - I don't think I've mentioned that Mitchell is now saying a few words!!! The only ones I can FOR SURE make out are "Momma" and "Dog".

I think Jacob is going to be jealous that he's not saying "Dada" more consistently! He says it, but hasn't figured out that it applies to Jacob yet. In fact, he said "dada" to an African American man on the airplane today - the man (and other passengers) got quite a chuckle out of it!

Mitchell reading a bedtime story with Grandma

This was my mom's specialty! Mitchell loves reading and she could typically read him to sleep each night. Talk about sweet dreams :)

I had to go to Chicago for a two day meeting on Monday and Tuesday, but I knew Mitchell was in safe hands!

Using Aunt Kelli as a crutch

Mitchell is getting closer and closer to walking on his own, but he's not quite there yet!

I've been trying to teach Mitchell sign language here and there, and he's finally doing some back! His favorite sign is "ball". We usually play with balls and throw them to the dogs, so he seems to be a bit confused and is using the sign for both a ball and a dog! We've got a little work to do!

Mom & David -Thanks again for letting us visit! We will see you in a few weeks at Thanksgiving!

We FINALLY made it!

Here is a little timeline of Mitchell and I's flight to Minneapolis:

Thursday, November 6th
-4am - Mitchell woke up (as normal), but instead of trying everything within reason to get him back to sleep, we began our day.
-5am- We are packed up in the car and headed to the airport for our 6:40am flight.
-5:20am - I realize we have forgot something CRUCIAL (long story) at home and turn around to get it.
-6:05am - Arrive at airport and bust our buns to the ticketing area only to wait in line.
-6:12am - Reach the front of the ticketing line and am informed that because are within 30 minute of our departure time, we will have to take the 9am flight instead.
6:12 - 6:15am - Unbuckle Mitchell from his stroller to hold him, so use him to help my case as I beg and plead with the lady to let us on the early flight! It does not work.
-6:15am - Call my mom in a tissy and inform that we'll be arriving at 11am instead of 8am.
6:15 - 8:30am - Mitchell and I make lots of friends in the airport.
8:30am - Finally board flight
9am - 10am - Mitchell sleeps for basically the entire flight.
11am - Mom and David meet us at the airport. I hand over Mitchell and borrow one of their cars to head downtown to my class.
11:30am - I finally arrive at my class that started at 8:30am!!!!
Luckily, I was just attending this one - not teaching!

Although the first morning was a bit rough, we've had a GREAT trip so far! It's snowy and cold, so we broke out one of Mitchell's cute winter hats! (In case you can't tell, it's a dog.)

Mitchell is still small enough to bathe in the sink. He thinks it's fun and we think it's cute :)
We had a playdate with the neighbors yesterday. They have twins that are 2 months older than Mitchell. This is Beau. Braxton is the other, but he was napping. They have a beautiful view of the Mississippi river out of their windows (they are also the ones with the pool that overlooks the river that I had on an earlier blog.)

They have TONS of toys, so Mitchell had a ball playing at their house!

We are getting lots of quality time with Aunt Kel, Grandma and Grandpa. More pictures to follow later....

Preppy Boy

I've just started eating starches and now you've got me using it on my shirts too, Mom?

I have another training in Minneapolis tomorrow and Friday, so Mitchell and I are flying up there EARLY tomorrow morning (would've loved to go tonight instead, but I teach my JCCC class tonight). Upon our arrival, I have to head directly downtown, so my mom and David are meeting us at the airport at 8am to do a swap -- I give them Mitchell and they give me a car (I think they get the better end of the bargain!)

We're staying the weekend and then I'm actually leaving Mitchell there for a day while I head to Chicago for yet another training. I will then fly back up there to pick him up before heading home next Wednesday! Whew! Jacob is already in Omaha and we won't see him until late next week....we already miss him!

I won't even get into our plans upon our return next week, it's enough to make my head spin. We'll just take it one day at a time and enjoy our visit with Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt Kel!

Happy Birthday, Jacob!

My matching, "church-ready" men : )

We celebrated Jacob's 29th birthday today. Yes, he's 2 years younger than I am....and never let's me forget it! His first birthday request was that he wanted to sleep in until 9am. Then we headed to breakfast at First Watch, before church. For the very first time, we decided to give the church nursery a try - see story below. We let him pick out a new Wii game for his present and then had lunch at Winstead's, where Jacob got his free birthday Skyscaper! He played basketball with the guys from work this afternoon and Mitchell and I headed to Shawnee Mission Park to take some pictures before the beautiful leaves are all gone!

Jacob and I have decided that Mitchell is a bit of a BULLY! He pays absolutely no attention to who is playing with what....if he wants it, he takes it! I respond by giving the toy back and apologizing to the parent, meanwhile trying to explain to Mitchell that he needs to share. Jacob responds by watching and chuckling....all of the while, I can see a little gleam of pride in his eyes.

As mentioned above, we decided to give the church nursery a try this morning. We dropped him off with ease and headed into the service. Inside the service, there is a little board where they flash the names of any misbehaving kids, so that parents will know to exit the service and report to the nursery/classroom. I pointed it out to Jacob and we both kept a close eye on it. Sure enough, about 1/2 way through the service "Mitchell Folks" flashed on the board. A few "knowing eyes" turned our way as we quickly exited the service and headed to his nursery room.

Much to our surprise, he was smiling and laughing when he entered. The ladies quickly explained that they were feeding the two young babies in the room their bottles and Mitchell was doing everything he could to get his grubby hands on their bottles! He wasn't being too fussy, but they were worried that he might be hungry especially given the 1 hour time change today. I explained that he had JUST had a big breakfast at First Watch and that he shouldn't be hungry. He's down to 3 bottles/nursing sessions a day now (morning, pre-afternoon nap and night).

They said we could return to the service and they'd call us in again if he continued to fuss for their bottles. We never saw his name again and finished the service in peace. When we picked him up, they said that they hoped we'd bring him again next week. He entertained all of them with his clapping and dancing. They predicted that he will grow up to be a musician of some sort because he liked the music so well. We'll see about that one! I do think we'll give the nursery another shot. It's nice to be able to actually listen to Pastor Adam!

Halloween Pictures

Just as hoped, we had a wonderful halloween!!! We carved pumpkins in the front yard and I purposely dressed Mitchell in some play clothes that could get messy, so that he could dig into the pumpkin "guts" with me!
He thought it was lots of fun! But it was a little challenging to keep the "guts" out of his mouth :)
Here is my favorite picture of the afternoon!

My Dad and Sherri came over to see Mitchell dressed in his monkey gear!

They watched Mitchell while Jacob and I put our costumes on. Yes, that's right. We all dressed up -- although Mitchell's was the cutest! :)

Can you see how short Mitchell's costume is on him? He is getting so tall!

We went over to our neighbors house to do a little trick-or-treating with the other babies. Here they are! From L to R: Isabella a pink poodle, Mitchell the monkey (obviously), Luke the devil, Lily the dalmation and Sophie the Leopard. I hope it's the start to a fun annual tradition!
