Happy Birthday, Mitchell!!!!

As of today, we no longer have four children under five years of age!  We have a VERY special SIX year old in our house today!

I tell him this all of the time, but Mitchell is my best friend.  Until school started this fall, I spent nearly all of my time and had more conversations with this smiling face!  School has opened up a whole new world to this little man.  He is learning so much academically, but I'm more proud of how much he's growing socially.  All of my family has commented lately on how much he has matured in the last year!

He truly is a gift to our family!  In fact, much like the world's time is denoted by BC or AD, my dad reminded me the other day that our family's recollections are often denoted as "Before Mitchell" or "After Mitchell".  "What year was that anyway?  Well...let's see, it was before Mitchell was born, so it must have been...."

The other night as we were driving home from our Christmas Eve celebration at my mom's house, Jacob drove in a separate car so that he could pick up his sister from the airport and the other kiddos were zonked out from the day full of activities, so Mitchell and I were the only ones awake.  From the very back of the quiet mini-van, I hear him say

"Mom, you know how God takes you to Heaven when we're done on Earth?"

"Yes, Mitchell, that's right." I said, preparing myself for what heartfelt question was to come next.

My preparations fell short and when I heard him say "When God takes me to Heaven, I hope he takes you at the same time, so that we don't have to be apart from each other."

It takes me a minute to respond because of the humongous frog that has just taken up home in my throat, "Mitchell, I hope so too."  AND knowing full and well, there is a very good chance that I'll walk through those gates first, I responded "But Mitchell, if I get there first, you don't need to worry about me.  I'll wait for you."

"You know what else, Mom?"

Again, it takes me a moment to respond.  It's as if he knew that my heart couldn't handle that conversation anymore and needed to be snapped back into reality, Mitchell said...

"I think the blue Power Ranger is stronger than the black Power Ranger."

I looked at him in the rear-view mirror through watery eyes, and said "Yes, buddy.  I bet you're right."

Don't let all of this JOY over welcoming our new baby girl into our family fool you, the core of my heart is completely in L.O.V.E. with the testosterone laden creatures in my house.

And there is a special place in my heart for the one that made me a mom, precisely SIX years ago today!

On that day, I experienced something similar to the popular Christmas character, the Grinch,

"And what happened then?  Well, in Whoville they say that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day."

Gobble, Gobble!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year.  Our #1 thing on the list was our healthy, happy baby girl born who was only two days old.

My mom is amazing for so many reasons, but she really outdid herself for Thanksgiving this year.  She was a life saver and watched the three boys while we were in the hospital.  She even kept them an extra night so that we could settle into life at home with our newborn for a night before the troops returned.

So somehow she managed to cook an amazing Thanksgiving dinner with all of the fixings while also caring for the boys.  I didn't bring a thing this year...just showed up with baby in hand and ate. :)

Here is Jovie cuddling with Aunt Kelli.

Welcome Baby Jovie!!!

Although our bundle of joy was 9 days late, we quickly decided that the wait was worth it! :)  Early on in the pregnancy, we had decided not to find out the gender of our fourth and final baby.  Although we knew there was a slight chance we might have a girl, our track record had us convinced that we were expecting our fourth boy.  BOY, were we wrong!!!

At 2:20pm on Tuesday, November 26th we welcomed a GIRL!

Jovie Moriah Folks
8 lbs, 8 oz
21 inches

Labor and delivery couldn't have gone better.  This last time around my body seems to finally know what it's doing :)

She got a 9 on her apgar score and passed her newborn tests with flying colors.  We are SOOOOO thankful for a healthy baby!!!

I absolutely love this picture of the first time the boys laid eyes on their baby sister!  They were SO excited to meet her!!!  Oh, this little girl has lots of eyes looking out for her!

My mom watched the boys for three full days while we were in the hospital and even gave us a little more time to get settled at home.  We were SO thankful!

Gotta love Macallan's "cheese face"!

She is the PERFECT way to complete our not so little family!  We are completely in love :)

Macallan turns TWO!

We celebrated a very special TWO year old in our house on November 10th :)

Instead of throwing a big party, we kept it simple and focused on lots of quality time together with our two-year old, especially since he will be a BIG BROTHER any day now!

He LOVES Choo=-Choo trains, we took the boys to a local Train Museum.  The highlight was a ride down the tracks on an old caboose.

The conductor gave us a little history of the train, which Mitchell especially enjoyed.

We toured a section where they repaired and refurbished old trains.

The whole experience was enough to wear out the little guy :)

I took this picture on November 9th, his last day as a 1 year old.  We're practicing our number 2 :)

Next up was a trip to an indoor trampoline park.  There are trampoline's EVERYWHERE!  He was the littlest guy there...but he didn't notice :)

Mitchell practiced flips into the foam pit!

I didn't get to jump this time.  I wonder why?

We capped the night with a FOOTBALL birthday party.  Grandma and Grandpa came over, and so did Aunt Kelli, Uncle Mark and cousins, Grant and Greta.

We all enjoyed some typical Football appetizers and football watching, Macallan's favorite past time! :)

He loved opening his presents, including his little football and his new backpack.

He knew EXACTLY what to do when the cake with candles was put in front of him.  No help needed to blow those babies out :)

He is obsessed with his new football jammies that Grandma and Grandpa gave him.  He was all to happy to wear them to bed.

Night, night little man.  We are LOVING our toddler days with Macallan.  He is learning and growing so much each day.  He's talking up a storm and we never know what's going to come out of his mouth next!  Times are sure to get interesting as we welcome Baby #4 in a matter of days, but we know he'll be a wonderful Big Brother!
