We're Moving!

Well, the time has come....  We always knew that with Jacob's job at Ernst & Young, the chance of moving was high...but we've lived in denial for years.  Chances of attaining his career goals are dismal in Kansas City.  After much consideration of client opportunities, E&Y gave Jacob the option of moving to Chicago or Minneapolis.  Professionally the opportunities are fairly similar, but personally Minneapolis is the better option for us....so Minneapolis here we come!

Let's start with the up side....my Mom & David, and my sister, Kelli, Mark and Grant will live less than 30 minutes from our new home.  How NICE it will be to have them close!  I am really excited for our boys and Grant to be able to grow up together...something Kel and I always wanted for our kids!  Plus, with more client opportunities in Minneapolis, Jacob will travel less which means more time with me and the boys - yeah!

Now for the down side....we are extremely sad to leave Kansas City for many reasons.  We fully realize that many of the things that we know and love are replaceable (church, preschools, doctors, etc), but the relationships we have here are irreplaceable. Despite constant urging, my Dad won't be moving with us. :(  We spend lots of time with "Grampy" and he is a big help with the boys & dogs.  Plus, it breaks my heart to leave him here without any other family around should he need anything.  We'll keep working on him!

We also have many wonderful friends that we'll miss dearly....many of them are old friends from high school, college or early days at E&Y.  They have already stood the test of time, and we have faith that they will continue to do so from afar.   Our strongest "newer" friendships are with our neighbors, who have become a 2nd family to us.  We spend many nights per week together and our children enjoy each other as much as the adults!  We know we'll never find neighbors this great again....and feel so blessed to have met them!

Below are some pictures of our house taken back in March when we listed it. We are happy to report that it is SOLD.  We were happy not to have had to have it on the market too terribly long.  We give possession to the new buyers on July 13th.

Front - we love our blooming trees in the spring.

Back deck - a feature we loved when we moved in.  Now with kids, we don't like the distance to the ground...nor the effort it takes to keep up the staining!
View of the green space (park) behind our house from the lower deck.  We WILL miss having the park behind us!  Plenty of room for the boys and dogs to romp and play!

We have a small stream between our backyard and the park.  Jacob built us a small bridge last summer, which has gotten LOTS of foot traffic!

Our large, shaded backyard makes for a great space for the boys to explore!

Dining Room - it was covered in wallpaper when we moved in, but since has been painted.....twice.  I wasn't happy with my first choice!  As you can image, this may have frustrated Jacob a little :)

Our living room

We stained the box beams & built-ins darker, painted the wood trim white, new windows, new lighting fixtures and replaced pink carpeting with hardwoods.

Ahh...the kitchen.  Probably the room that I will miss the most.  We gave it a complete overhaul - stained the cabinets, new appliances, granite countertops, removed wallpaper and new paint (twice again!), new lighting fixtures, refinished hardwoods and all new windows.

Master Bedroom on the main level - new paint, new carpet, new tile in Master Bath

All three boys bedrooms are on the upper level.  The are really nice in size and all share a bathroom. This picture is of Maverick's bedroom, but Mitchell actually sleeps in the bunkbeds, while Maverick sleeps in Mitchell's old "train" bed.

The basement was unfinished when we moved in.  We started the process to finish it in 2007 and it took YEARS to complete, but it is finally done...in time to leave it :(  We love our big screen projector.  It has made for some very fun movie nights with the boys and watching sporting events with friends.

The basement has a full kitchen, that we mainly just use as a bar.

The basement also has an office for Jacob, which he uses regularly when he works from home.
It has our guest bedroom, guest bath, and playroom for the boys through that arched doorway.
As our first home as a married couple, and the place we brought all of our three boys home from the hospital to, this home has a lot of sentimental value to us!  Driving away from this place for the last time will be especially hard...however it is just a house...our family is our true "home".  We have a close little family of 5 (7 with the doggies), and as much as it pains us to say goodbye to Kansas City, we are embracing the opportunities that lie ahead.

Batman's Last Day of Preschool

Mitchell's preschool is out for the summer!

Last Day Picture!

First Day Back in September with the school's director, Mrs. Walterscheid

Of course, he can't enter school the conventional way.  He had to crawl up and over the railing rather than walk around.  He did so well at school this year!  His class was almost all boys, which made for some trying times for his teacher, I imagine!

Here is a picture of a tired Batman after a fun morning at a children's carnival.

We are looking forward to our summer adventures!

Macallan is growing like a weed! :)

He's eating, he's sitting, he's almost crawling....our little Macallan is less and less "baby-like" every day!

6 month pediatrician stats:
Weight - 17lbs, 10oz (55%)
*a full 4 lbs less than Mitchell as this age.
*2 lbs less than Maverick at this age.

Height - 28 1/2 inches (97%)
*an inch taller than Mitchell at this age.
*same exact height as Maverick at this age.

He is still a snuggly little thing and Gran got to enjoy some Macallan snuggles during her recent visit :)  She spoiled the "big" boys with new water guns and an ant farm.  Both continue to get lots of attention!

Mother's Day Photoshoot

Each year on "my" day, my #1 request is a photoshoot with the boys.  I was SOOO excited to get a good one of all three of them :)

Recent conversation with Maverick...

Maverick: "Mommy is yucky."
Me: "Awww, why am I yucky?"
Maverick: "No, Mommy is yucky."
Me: "Mommy is yucky?"
Maverick "NO!  Yyyyyyuuucky!"
Me: "Mommy is lucky?"
Maverick: "Yeah, yucky."
Me: "You are right, I am lucky." :)

They spoiled me rotten on Mother's Day!  Jacob's work has slowed down A LOT lately, so we've had lots of family time.  It is really nice :)

Macallan is 6 months old!

Macallan celebrated his half birthday today...complete with several "happy birthday" songs from his brothers!

He is showing off some new skills in his 'old' age! :)

New Skill #1 - Up on all fours!

New Skill #2 - Sitting up on his own (briefly!)

This kid has smiles for miles!

In addition to "Good Boy", Mitchell likes to call Macallan "Wow Wow Baby".  I have no idea why!  My co-worker's husband is the oldest of three boys and he nicknamed his two younger brothers with names that still stick to this day....although it is endearing, it makes me paranoid! :)

His hair continues to be his signature trait!  After just about scalping Mitchell at his very first haircut, I made it a goal to wait an entire year before Maverick's 1st haircut.  We'll see if Macallan makes it that long.....he might be mistaken for a girl before too long!  His hair is growning fast!

Like a typical 6 month old, Macallan tries to get anything and everything in his mouth these days.  No teeth yet, but it won't be long!

It didn't take him long to realize that there was a sticker on his shirt...a sticker that he wanted in his mouth!

Watch out world, Macallan is growing like a weed and is almost on the move!!!!

Branson Weekend Get-a-way!

After months and months of talking about it...we finally did it...a weekend get-a-way with the neighbors!  We rented a vacation cabin/home in Branson, MO for the weekend.  8 Adults, 9 kids, TONS of food, drinks and laughs :)

The kids dined on the screened in porch for their meals.  At one point they made a "no adults allowed rule!", which they quickly learned meant "no food for you!"

Speaking of food, we literally ate and ate and ate all weekend long!  Here are the kiddos enjoying some fireside S'Mores!

Did you get in IN your mouth, Gracie?
Can you tell that was soon to follow?  Yes, we ALL had naptime each afternoon.  It was wonderful!

Our one and only group outing was to "Ride the Ducks" that funky looking boat on wheels.

Lilli held Macallan while waiting in line.

Cool guy, Mav with his shades.
 Silly Mitchell & Lilli

Lily, Lilli & Sadie listening intently to the instructions on the Duck.

We all got quackers for the ride...they were banned from the cabin!

All smiles for Mitchell!
We saw some pretty views of Branson!

Maverick closed his eyes on Brian's lap for about 2.5 seconds.  He didn't want to miss anything!

Sadie and Alex were a little frightened as we entered the water....until they realized we could float!
All of the kiddos took turns driving the Duck Boat.  Mitchell was first!

Lilli's turn!
 Lily's turn!
 Grace's turn!
It took some talking into....but Alex finally drove to!

Happy baby, Macallan even took a turn :)
Jacob and I took the boys to Silver Dollar City one afternoon.  We all really enjoyed ourselves!

Thanks to our double stroller, we even had nap time at Silver Dollar City!

One morning, Jill made homemade donuts for the kiddos....with sprinkles!  Needless to say, they loved them! :)

Lilli was a fan of breakfast :)

Macallan was passed around like a hot potato most of the trip...he didn't seem to mind at all :)
Lily, Maverick and Grace enjoyed the view from the front porch of the house.

Brian helped run all 8 kiddos through nighttime baths!  Here are Grace & Maverick :)
Jacob and I took the boys to Fantastic Caverns on the way home.  Mitchell continues to say this was one of his favorite things about the trip.  He loved seeing the inside of the cave and the bats!

I absolutely love this last picture.  It sums up the 8 kiddos so well....each of them with their own agenda and own personality!

We really hope to make this trip an annual event!  It was so much fun!!!
