Trip to the Mile-High City

Jacob's buddy got married in Denver on Friday night.  Mitchell is still at Grandma's, so we took Maverick with us to the Mile-High City.  We decided Colorado was the first state that Maverick has been to BEFORE Mitchell :)

We had a great time at the wedding (at which I didn't take any pictures).  I decided to let Jacob sleep in on Saturday morning while Maverick and I drove around and looked at the beautiful mountains.  Now here's an interesting story for you....

Maverick and I were driving around Ken Caryle Valley.  It was breathtakingly beautiful!  I drove up the side of a small mountain and stopped the car along the side of the road to take a good landscape picture.  All of the sudden, I saw a security truck with it's lights on speeding my way.  He pulled in front of my car to block me in.  Although there were no signs to inform me, apparently I was too close to a federal building to be taking pictures.  Literally, I couldn't even SEE the federal building!  He demanded that I erase the picture that I just took from my camera and vacate the premises, to which I obliged.  After he realized that Maverick and I were not national threats, we began talking.  He asked what brought me here from Kansas City.  A pretty normal question typically, but caught me off guard because I had never told him where I was from.  I gather that he must've run my plates?  Anyway, all was fine in the end.  He informed us of some better places to take pictures and Maverick and I went merrily on our way.  I later looked it up and apparently there was a Lockheed Martin complex on up the mountain road that we were driving on.  It was certainly my first (and hopefully only) run in with Homeland Security.

I like this shot below.  Dowtown Denver in the distance through a gap in the mountains.

Maverick was a good little boy the whole trip.  He was great on the 9 hour drive each way and he was smiley at the wedding and reception.  We had a very nice little get-away and decided we need to revisit Colorado in the summer when the boys are a bit older for some hiking, rafting, etc.

Mitchell is having a wonderful time!! Last night after swimming for a couple of hours we were settling in for a good nights sleep when he told me "I don't want to have red hair! I want to have brown hair". However, he was just find with having red hair this morning!
